History
When I told Youth Leader, Alan Millar, in 1999 about the wine tastings
I'd led in Oxford he was quick to suggest that many people, including
himself, were keen to learn a bit more about wine and that we should
organise a similar tasting for the Young Adults of Queen's Cross and at the same time raise money for
charity. It was a "no-brainer" that the charity should be Christian
Aid, given Queen's Cross' links and so our first tasting of the year is always in May, as close to Christian Aid Week as possible.
The very first tasting, back in 1999,
consisted of a selection of Chardonnays from around the world, a
Sauvignon Blanc, a Rioja, a Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon blend and a
couple of Merlots, all designed to show the differences between some of
the well known grape varieties and how the styles of wine vary around the world. More
recently we've extended our repetoire to include a Champagne tasting at the end of August (afterall Dom Perignon was a monk!) and a Bordeaux tasting, showing that even
the most expensive wine region in the world can produce some gems that
you or I can afford.
Look out for the next one! (details above).
